Business Planning

American life is small business. Fully 99% of all independent enterprises in the country employ fewer than 500 people. These small enterprises account for 52% of all U.S. workers. Some 19.6 million Americans work for companies employing fewer than 20 workers, 18.4 million work for firms that employ between 20 and 99 workers, and 14.6 million work for firms with 100 to 499 workers.

Small businesses are a continuing source of dynanism for the American economy. They produced three-fourths of the economy’s new jobs between 1990 and 2005. But while small business owners often have comprehensive (and passionate) knowledge of their own field, they are often terribly ignorant of even the most basis legal necessities required to keep their corporate shield in place.

Small Business Owners Need Legal Assistance!

Legal representation of small businesses with fewer than 500 employees constitutes a significant and growing part of our law firm business.

Our representation of new businesses oftentimes involves entity formation and the preparation of all the necessary organizing documents.

Existing businesses oftentimes need assistance related to buy/sell agreements, leases, real estate purchases, employment contracts, loan applications and litigation.

A significant part of our business services is related to asset protection planning. Asset protection planning is designed to assist the business owner in preserving both personal and company assets in a legal manner that prevents creditors from attaching or liquidating assets.

Business successor planning is one of the single most challenging aspects of planning work. Most businesses do not survive the founder’s retirement or death in large part due to the lack of a sound plan. We help our business clients put together a sound business succession plan and prepare estate plans for each individual owner.
